DIAGNOSIS

Signs of a failing transfer case

01

Jerking or stuttering under acceleration

The most common early symptom of worn clutch packs inside the transfer case.

02

Clicking noise under the car

Often points to actuator gear wear or a failing internal bearing.

03

4x4 / ABS / brake warning lights

These can be triggered together when the transfer case control system detects a fault.

04

Loss of drive to front or rear axle

A sign of significant clutch pack failure that needs addressing before it worsens.

WHAT WE FIND

This is what wear looks like

From the outside a failing transfer case looks fine — the damage only shows once it's stripped. These are the exact kinds of wear we look for and rebuild out.

OUR PROCESS

Strip, reinforce, rebuild

STEP 01

Diagnose by VIN

Send us your 17-digit VIN (found on the V5C, dashboard or door frame) along with the symptoms — we'll confirm the exact unit and likely fault.

STEP 02

Rebuild & reinforce

Worn clutches replaced with high-performance friction plates, plus upgraded actuator gears and heavy-duty bearings.

STEP 03

Test, fill, warranty

Unit tested, pre-filled with high-grade xDrive fluid, covered by a 12-month warranty.

No flat retail prices — every xDrive model and gear ratio is different, so we quote based on your specific VIN. We can't quote from a registration number alone — please send the VIN.
WHERE TO FIND IT

Your 17-digit VIN is in one of these three places

Windscreen

Look through the glass on the driver's side — a small metal plate sits at the base of the windscreen.

Driver's door frame

Open the driver's door — a sticker on the frame or pillar lists the VIN along with tyre and paint codes.

V5C logbook

Printed near the top of your V5C registration certificate, labelled "VIN/Chassis number".

BEYOND THE TRANSFER CASE

Rear differential repair — Mercedes A / B / CLA / GLA

Many compact 4MATIC Mercedes models drive the rear axle through a compact, electronically-controlled rear differential unit. When it wears you get the same 4×4 warning lights and drivetrain shudder as a failing transfer case — but the fix is a different unit.

We rebuild these rear differential / rear-axle drive units too, so you don't have to buy a full replacement:

  • Worn clutch packs and actuators replaced
  • Bearings and seals renewed, unit refilled with the correct fluid
  • Bench-tested before dispatch and covered by a 12-month warranty

FAQ

Common questions

Can you quote from my registration number?

No — the same model can use several different transfer cases and gear ratios. We quote from your 17-digit VIN, which pins down the exact unit and the right parts.

How long does a rebuild take?

Typical turnaround is a few working days once your unit reaches us. We'll confirm timing when we see the VIN and the fault.

Do I have to remove the unit myself?

You can send us the removed unit, or ask about removal and refit — message us your location and we'll advise the best option.

What warranty do I get?

Every rebuilt transfer case and rear differential is bench-tested and covered by a 12-month warranty.

Which vehicles do you cover?

BMW xDrive, Mercedes 4MATIC, Porsche, Audi quattro, Maserati Q4, MINI ALL4, Alfa Romeo Q4 and Land Rover AWD systems.

Send us your VIN, we'll tell you the fix

Send your 17-digit VIN and describe what you're feeling — we'll come back with an honest diagnosis and a quote. We can't decode a unit from a registration number alone, so please have your VIN ready (V5C, dashboard or door frame).
